SCIENCE
Despite there being over 26,000 human diseases recorded in the Human Disease
Database (Mala Cards), cancer remains a prominent cause of death worldwide.
Cancer is particularly fearsome due to its invasive and often fatal nature. The
growth, division, and death of cells in the body are controlled by genes present in
each cell. If these genes are mutated or altered, cells may begin to grow and divide
uncontrollably, leading to the development of cancer. Thus, a cancer cell is a cell
that divides when and where it should not. Each cancer is given a specific code
depending on whether it is primary or secondary (metastases). Identifying the
unique cancer code that drives the proliferation of a particular cancer is crucial
because it helps develop targeted treatments that can selectively kill cancer cells
while sparing healthy cells.
LET US PONDER
There is a parallel between the manifestation of cancer in the physical body and the
unseen presence of sin in our spiritual lives. The Bible often likens sin to a disease
that can rapidly spread and corrupt us. According to the Bible's teachings, human
nature is inherently sinful, meaning that we are not merely capable of committing
sin, but it is an inseparable aspect of who we are. Paul expounds on this in Romans
7:25 when he declares, “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then,
I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh, I serve the law of
sin.”
The concept of assigning a code to sin based on its nature is similar to the approach
used in the cancer code, where diseases are classified according to their primary or
secondary nature and whether they have been treated or cured (history code). In the
case of spiritual code, the nature of sin determines the code assigned to it, such as
whether it was committed willfully or passively or whether the person has been
redeemed through faith in Christ. John is talking about “sin leading to death and sin
not leading to death” in 1 John 5:16,17. “If anyone sees his brother committing a
sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life – to those who
commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say
that one should pray for that.” Just as personalized medicine, which involves
identifying a patient's unique cancer code, enables tailored treatments that are
specific to their individual needs, identifying an individual's spiritual code can also
facilitate specific spiritual transformation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
