Sudden Unexplained Death (SUD), also known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SID), is a tragic and complex phenomenon affecting thousands of infants, children, and young adults in the United States annually. Despite extensive research, the underlying biology behind SUD remains largely unknown. Several extrinsic and intrinsic risk factors have been identified, but in many cases, even after a thorough autopsy, the cause of death remains elusive. Autopsies can provide valuable information, including identifying abnormalities that may not have been detected through other diagnostic methods such as ultrasound or MRI. However, the lingering problem is identifying the cause of death in autopsy negative cases.
Current research suggests that genetic variations underpin the susceptibility of at least some individuals to sudden death. This helps determine the cause and mode of death of these people. In unexplained intrauterine death in some cases of a negative autopsy, post-mortem genetic testing is recommended. This is important because genes control our health and illness, and individuals with a family history of sudden death or a personal history of heart disease are at a higher risk. In some cases, sudden death can be prevented by early detection and treatment of underlying conditions.

The human genome is called the book of physical life, and David calls the human genome the book (of biological life) in psalms 139:16. Similarly, the human spirit is the book of spiritual life. Natural dissolution has sway over physical life but not over the human spirit. It can either remain in the natural or transformed (re-born) state. Just as our address is imprinted in our genes at birth, God imprints the names of those born again in Him at the spiritual birth. However, the scripture also talks about spiritual warfare and death. Some people suddenly wreck their faith, backslide, and give up on God. Even pastors and persons who have been Christians for years lose the battle of the spirit and suddenly embrace the religion of the world or renounce God. (19 holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith. 1 Timothy 1:19-20 “). To win the battle against such a fall, we must heed the wise advice of the apostle Paul, ‘For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything,” Ephesians 6;12,13. The back slide could take various forms, and a spiritual autopsy is needed for them to return to God. Just as a genome autopsy can identify the cause of physical death, a spiritual autopsy can identify the cause of the backslide. Is the genomic autopsy an image of the spiritual autopsy?
